Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park
The park has been a favourite destination since 1932. Spread over 22 acres of parkland, with Native Trees and with a natural spring of fresh water it's truly a unique experience. Not only do you get to see New Zealands icon the Kiwi bird, you will also see other protected and endangered species of New Zealand, Wild Trout, Eels, Keas, Tuatara, Geckos, Parrots, Swans, Sheep, Wallabies, Pigs, Donkeys, the list could go on but I don't want to spoil your fun. Along with everything to see and do the park also offers a Nighttlife Experience where you get to have dinner and a guided tour of the park at night, truly an amazing way to see the park and the wildlife at play.
In 2004 the first purpose-built Kiwi hatchery and rearing facility in the country was opened, hatching over 100 Kiwi each season. The park offers a KIWI ENCOUNTER a guided visit through the facility for a small but very important fee, which goes straight into the National Kiwi Trust that supports the Kiwi hatching progamme. You can also help the KIWI survival by being part of the Adopt-A-Kiwi programme and get your own sponsorship pack.
Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park has embarked on a multi-million dollar project that will change the face of the park. Work has begun on the 'Project Big Splash', a high-tech water ride flowing through the ecological evolution of New Zealand. The ride will be highly interactive and will both inform and excite park visitors.
The $10 million-plus project also includes construction of an outdoor 400-seat, free-flight bird show auditorium, an interactive children's playground and a new reptile enclosure. Due to open early 2012 the development will be the largest single investment made in the park since it opened in 1932.
